So, here's the scoop...

WE LEAVE IN 2 DAYS! 36 hours to be (almost) exact!!

My puppy has a sitter, my clothes are washed, my fridge is empty, and my house is clean (kind of). I guess I am ready to leave for 9 days! Notice I didn't say I was packed; I am the master procrastinator so that likely won't get done until tomorrow (night).

I am so excited about this trip and the amazing opportunities my team is going to have while we are in DC! I would like to share with you a few things on our itinerary...

-USDA tour
-Bread for the World visit
-Advocacy training with Patton Boggs
-White House tour (they are doing our background checks!)
-DC Central Kitchen orientation, tour, and volunteering
-Networking dinner at Jack Field's house ( I honestly don't know who Jack Field is but I'm thinking I better find out!) (I hope he doesn't read this :/)

We also will have some free time to explore museums and local attractions which I am very excited about as I have never been to Washington D.C. before.

We were given a homework assignment before we leave which was to read the book "A Place at the Table". I will be honest, I am not yet finished with it, but so far it is an amazing read and I strongly encourage you all to read it too!

I want to again express my gratitude to all of you who have helped my team and I prepare  for this trip. Whether that be through prayer, financial donations, or any of the other ways we have received help, we are thankful! I ask you to continue to keep us in your thoughts and prayers throughout our time in DC.

I will (hopefully) be making a post everyday while in DC so please check back to see what we are up to! I am looking forward to sharing this experience with each one of you!

Until next time,
Katelyn

"It's not about the money, money, money"

COUNTDOWN: 47 DAYS!!

As the number of days until we leave dwindle down, we are starting to prepare more excessively for our coming mission. The plane tickets are bought, the agenda is being finalized (which includes a possible trip to the white house!!), and we are in the final days of our fundraising.

I am so excited to be able to have this opportunity! I am really looking forward to getting to know some of my peers on a deeper level and building new relationships with those I have yet to meet.  But beyond building relationships, there is this amazing opportunity to gain knowledge and experience in a field that I so dearly love...Social Work.

This month we will be having two team meetings to discuss things like what to wear (I've heard it's a mans world in D.C. so no bright colors or flirty dresses), how much we can pack (wish me luck), and other technical details of the trip.

So, once again I ask for your support through your thoughts, prayers, and if you feel, called monetary donations.

If you feel called to donate you may do so online at

I personally want to thank you for your support(prayers and funds) as I enter into this time of preparation for this special mission trip.

I am looking forward to sharing more info with you as I receive it!

grace and peace,
Katelyn

Pre- Mission Planning

Countdown: 69  DAYS!!!

So here we are 69 days until our flight to Washington D.C.! My team, the Hunger in America team, will be focusing on learning about the policies, organizations, and programs affecting hungry individuals in America. While we are there we will have unique opportunities to put our knowledge into practice by volunteering and serving at organizations such as: DC Central Kitchen, Maryland Breakfast in the Classroom, the United States Department of Agriculture, Capital Area Food Bank, Bread for the World, and more!

As of right now our team could use your thoughts and prayers as we ready ourselves for this mission experience. We could also use your help in our final stages of fundraising! If you feel called to donate you can make an online donation at
